What skills did you gain that you found to be advantageous from being part of the group?
We all supported one another, shared ideas, read drafts, provided suggestions. That support was invaluable. In addition I also gained these skills and found these to be advantageous: Solid research design and methodology, useful skills for addressing problems/issues/challenges/questions in an academic setting, in business and in life, statistical analysis skills which is critical for assessing the validity of academic and business research and for developing independent conclusions/recommendations, and team collaboration skills which is necessary in all work settings.
What have you been doing since you graduated?
I headed up the leadership and organizational development functions in two global corporations before taking on the lead talent management, learning and organizational development role at a major university. While working in one corporate setting I also helped establish a research institute at Columbia University and got heavily involved in theory and application related to organizational learning.
What are you doing now?
I am the Senior Director of Talent, Learning and Organizational Development at New York University
Do you have any tips for current lab members?
Stay open to a full range of career options. Often you learn the most valuable skills and gain the most useful experiences working on a project that just seems dreadful at the time. Funny how life is ... many years later, the knowledge and capabilities you gained from that experience turn out to be just the thing that gives you the "edge" needed for success.
